Verbatim:

"I knew driving north on US 219 would take me through some of the most lush and pristine wilderness that can be found anywhere in the country."

Really? Ever tried Vermont, Montana, Wyoming, Utah or Alaska? Check out the map in the article, the plotted route goes nearly entirely through the farmed land.

Again, West Virginia median per household income is 37K, per capita is 24K. Big difference, wouldn't you say?

As my buddy Albert used to say- "Two things are infinite- the Universe and human stupidity".

Sorry, I couldn't just let it pass. I wonder, as a reference to some earlier post, is this a result of Ivy league education or some venerable community college of nowhere.

Oh, this is absolutely journalist-y. One of those "look at them flyover people" pieces.

I wasn't implying that. It's the article calorie count and all reminded me about precious calculations of how much it takes to survive by Henry Thoreau.

That's all.

Cheers,

yeah, but at Thoreau's times significantly more Americans were familiar with these calculations. I hope it's not becoming a trend, to count on self-generated produce in families' budget, but in current economy - it might.
