Кстати, ещё интересно: the very concept of an academic boycott is an oxymoron. The whole idea of academic freedom is of a free exchange of knowledge and information. Поэтому, names of institutions and academics who participate in this boycott should be published, so that they not be invited to conferences in Israel or enjoy other benefits of academic co-operation with Israeli scholars and institutions of higher learning.

Разве что на пенсию ему прямо сейчас. И всем его коллегам тоже. Интересно, что скажет ему, например, профессор с мат. кафедры, или химик, которому из-за него в чём-то отказали?

Most likely, his refusal had little to do with a boycott; it was just a pretext for something else (as a possibility - his personal dislike for her Israeli advisor).

Not about boycott - but I have seen plenty of refusals to cooperate in the academic world, under phony excuses.
